Embark on an exhilarating day trek to Thajwas Glacier, located just one hour’s walk ahead of Sonamarg. A scenic drive of two and a half hours from Srinagar along the picturesque Srinagar-Leh Highway, alongside the Sind River, takes you to the charming town of Sonamarg. From there, a delightful 1-hour hike through pine forests leads to the magnificent Thajwas Glacier. This glacier is a popular attraction in Sonamarg, offering visitors a chance to experience its beauty up close. While it’s possible to drive to the head of the glacier, trekking through the meadows adds to the adventure and charm of the experience.

Schedule Details

0700 – 0900 hours: Reception at Srinagar
  • Our guide will receive you at Srinagar, and we drive to Sonamarg through Ganderbal.
  • Enjoy a short break at the Sind river bank at Wayil before arriving at Sonamarg.
1000 – 1200 hours: Start our 2-hour trek
  • Hike through pine forest and meadow, and arrive at the head of the Glacier.
  • Enjoy the breathtaking scenery and the aerial view of the valley below.
  • Have lunch at the glacier, and optionally indulge in snow sliding or visit shepherd huts to discover their lifestyle.
1600 – 1700 hours: Trek back down from Thajwas
  • Take our car drive back to Srinagar.
  • Drop at Srinagar. End of tour.

What to Carry ?
  • Carry essential items such as passport, money, and camera gear. Additionally, pack warm clothing, trekking shoes, rain gear, and personal medications.
Fitness
  • Participants should have a good level of general fitness to undertake this trek. Minimum fitness requirements include trekking up to 7km per day, daily activity of up to 5 hours, and carrying up to 5kg in a day-sack. Be prepared for challenging terrain and varying altitudes up to 4200m.
